Thirty-two Demands

The Thirty-two Demands were a set of demands outlined by the February 28 Incident Settlement committee in the wake of the 2-28 Incident. As the name suggest, it consisted of 32 demands the committee, and the Taiwanese people more broadly, had towards the Nationalist government. These included:

  • abolition of trade and monopoly bureaus,
  • abolition of the Administrator's Office,
  • abolition of the Garrison Command,
  • greater Taiwanese representation in government,
  • greater Taiwanese representation in the control over the military,
  • that Taiwanese will not be drafted to fight in the Civil War, and
  • that mayors be elected by the public.
