New Party

The New Party (Chinese: 新黨; Pinyin: Xīn dǎng) is a political party founded in July 1993. Its founders were former members of the KMT, specifically the anti-Lee faction named New KMT Alliance who had left the party after President Lee's more liberal faction strengthened its grip over the KMT, muzzling the flank of the conservatives and hard-line unificationists. While initially they maintained the support of a sizeable chunk of the electorate and managed to keep their vote share at around 15% throughout the early 1990s, by the end of the decade their support began to deteriorate and Taiwan reverted to being a two-party system.
