Mainland Affairs Council

The Mainland Affairs Council, (Chinese: 大陸委員會; Pinyin: Dàlù Wěiyuánhuì) commonly abbreviated as MAC, was established in 1990 as part of the Executive Yuan with the intent of resuming unofficial talks and improving their relationship with the People's Republic. It was the task of the council to begin drafting plans as to how this would be carried out.

Its establishment was positively received by the leadership of the PRC, who in turn created their own complementary institution, known as the Association for Relations across the Taiwan Strait (ARATS).
