Ilha Formosa!

Formosa was the name by which the Western world first came to know the island we now call Taiwan.

The name was attributed to it after a passenger on a Portuguese ship sailing by labelled it "Ilha Formosa!", Portuguese for "beautiful island", in 1544, which was recorded in the ship's log.
