Formosa Resolution

The Formosa Resolution was passed by the US Congress in January 1955 with bipartisan support. It authorised the President of the United States to deploy US armed forces to maintain the security of Formosa and the Penghu Islands as he deems necessary. In combination with the US-Taiwan Mutual Defence Treaty, it reflected the US's hawkish support for Taiwan at the time.
