2008 presidential election

The 2008 presidential election concluded with pragmatist KMT candidate and former Mayor of Taipei Ma Ying-jeou elected the President of the Republic of China with 58% of the vote1. This was the second triumphant victory for the party after they captured 70% of seats in the legislature two months prior.

The outcome of the election showed the Taiwanese public's frustration with the gridlock of a KMT legislature and a DPP executive.
